First motorcycle ride of the year
It was a whopping 40ºF (4ºC) yesterday here in Columbus Ohio.
My daughter had taken my car to school and my wife had her car out for the morning so I was stuck home without a car for lunch.
Sometimes on Friday’s I meet up with few friends for lunch and with the sun shining I wasn’t going to let the lack of a reasonable mode of transportation stop me from getting away from work for an hour or so to have good meal.
At that temperature riding a motorcycle isn’t completely out of the question if you’ve got decent gear, and a bike with a decent windscreen or fairings. I had none of those things.
I threw on a hoody, and my helmet. My bike is a 500cc Honda Rebel that is essentially a naked cruiser with no protection whatsoever from the elements. So even at a relatively slow 35MPH the wind chill made the air feel like 28ºF or -2ºC, and the wind cut straight threw my hoodie as if I wasn’t even wearing a shirt. Not the smartest decision I’ve ever made.
Had I been more prepared I would’ve put on some long underwear, dug my riding jacket out of the closet and spent $100 on a small windscreen... but then again If I made good decisions I probably wouldn’t have a motorcycle in the first place. 🤣
Speaking of which I should probably look at buying something more practical, like a Harley Davidson Road Glide or Honda Goldwing. I just need about 30 grand that I’m not doing anything else with.
